Working with the Borough of Mayfield in Pennsylvania, we're cleaning up a 3/4 acre site to create an outdoor farmer's market dedicated to agriculture, civic activities, entertainment and environmental education on a key site in northern Lackawanna County. A pole barn and a separate farm stand will be constructed and surrounding land will be leveled and cleared of weeds, debris, and graded to allow for planting. These two areas will allow for an indoor/outdoor Farmers Market to be operated at the facility and entertainment events to be held no matter what the weather. Areas around the facility will be dedicated for growing sunflowers and cut flowers.
What is planned:
1.
The project consists of the removal of blight and overgrowth on the corner of a littered property and replacement with a community asset which will become a resource for regional farmers, food and related businesses, and the regional population in general. The Mayfield Community and Agricultural Market will allow farmers to sell locally grown produce directly to consumers.
2.
A staircase to the The Mayfield Community and Agricultural Marketwill be constructed with different levels developed with stone and pavers to create environmentally friendly areas for vendors, picnic tables and benches. Handicapped accessible areas will be developed to make the entire complex accessible. Areas around the facility will be dedicated for growing sunflowers and cut flowers
3.
Extension of utilities to the site will include water and electricity. Signage, landscaping and street lighting will be installed. The location just off a local business route will make the Community and Agricultural Market easily accessible from throughout the region and add to the overall attractiveness of the immediate area.
